Custer Deocaris a Filipino Balik Scientist presented a scientific break throughs and concepts, including practical tips to live longer and even the idea of being immortal, in his presentation in titled"Biology of Immortality and the Conquest of Aging" last January 21 at the University of St. Lasalle,Deocaris said that "society is close minded over the concept of longevity",that at this age, everybody is till in denial that people today will live longer than average life span. "longevity is here. We have to prepare the society because this is really coming".He added. Deocaris mentioned that people os the medical field now adays are doing researches and experiments to succeed in an ambitious project -manipulating aging itself.
"the first person to live to be 1000 years old is certainly alive today...whether they realize it or not. barring accidents and suicide , most people now 40 years or younger can expect to live for centuries",Deocaris said, citing University of Cambridge geneticst Aubrey de Grey.
Deocaris presented the immortals cells"with an infinite capacity to replicate and evolve trough eons, called "Pandorina morum" and "Volvox minor".However, he said that these immortal cells turn cancerous when in a renegade state. Because of that , a topic about the embryonic Stem(ES)cells entered the conversation. These ES cells are being taken trough the process called Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer(SCNT),which is also "similar to the paradigm of taking it out aborted embryos."Apparently,Deocaris said this procedure of longivity may irk different sectors in the society by saying that this idea is more likely a way of basatardizing human life and dignity."
Putting the topic in line with the discipline of religious groups,Deocaris presented various proposals, including the Blastomere,Parthenote and Cellular Reprogramming-all elaborated with scientific explanations.the Departments of Science and Technology( DOST)Balik Scientist concluded the forum by posting this question to the lasallian audience:"Are you ready to drink form the fountain of youth?"
